Serena Williams was born on September 26, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan. She is an American former World No. 1 ranked female tennis player who has won eight Grand Slam singles titles and an Olympic gold medal in women's doubles. She is the younger sister of another former world no. 1 professional female tennis player, Venus Williams. When Serena was four and a half, she won her first tournament, and she entered 49 tournaments before the age of 10, winning 46 of them.
In 2005, Tennis magazine ranked her as the 17th-best player of the preceding forty years.
She was WTA Newcomer of the Year in 1998 succeeded by Kim Clijsters, WTA Most Improved Player in 1999 succeeded by Elena Dementieva and WTA Player of The Year in 2000 succeeded by Justine Henin. As on June 25, 2007 she is at eight position in list of women's top tennis player.
In 2007 she won Australian Open by defeating Maria Sharapova by 6-1, 6-2 in final.
Currently she is participating in Wimbledon 2007 and won her 3rd round defeating Milagros Sequera by 6-1, 6-0.
